TechTuesday #32 Photos on Facebook

by C. Spencer Reynolds on August 3, 2010

Today on TechTuesday LIVE #32 we talked about “Photos on Facebook” and how we can add some life to the photos that we post up on Facebook!  First, did you know you can simply click ONE BUTTON and rotate any photo you have posted to Facebook?  I had a couple of photos from my iPhone that I posted up that were standing up portrait but needed to be landscape, in the HD version you can download FREE THIS WEEK, you will see which button that is…

We also talked about how you can use Photoshop (and buy the way you have got to check out the online editor at Photoshop.com) or any other image editing software to add a back ground to your Facebook Profile photo.  Don’t let the simplicity of this tip pass you by, your profile photo is EVERYWHERE now thanks to Facebook Connect and you want it to look great where ever it is, so take some time to make it nice!!!

We get into A LOT more, and this week we have something SPECIAL, you can download the HD version FREE!!!  This normally requires the $10 a month QuestioningSuccess Community Membership BUT I really want people to be able to spread this message because it is simple and easy and everyone can learn something this week.  PASS IT ON, use the “SHARE” button below and post it to your social network of choice or email to your favorite business owner.  If you want access to all the previous HD versions of TechTuesday I would encourage you to BECOME A MEMBER! (This was also posted to the iTunes Podcast for the HD Premium Stream, so if you are already a member check iTunes and it should be downloaded automatically!)

Last but not least, if you forward this on and introduce TechTuesday to at least 10 business owner or entrepreneur friends send me an email and tell me, I will send you the PSD (Photoshop files) to use as a template for JAZZING UP your Facebook Profile photo!!!  (Easy to use the share button below.)

TechTuesday #31 “Tech Maintenance”

by C. Spencer Reynolds on July 27, 2010

The most important things sometimes are not the funnest!  This week on TechTuesday C. Spencer Reynolds talks about 4 things that are CRUCIAL!!!

  1. Battery Backup
  2. On-Site Backup
  3. Off-Site Backup
  4. Time Block for Cleanup

Battery Backup

If you are looking for a very cheap way to have a simple backup for just you computer, check out this ($43) 6 outlet option by APC.  If you have more than your computer and want it to run for longer than just a couple of minutes then I would go for this ($118) 8 plug option from Tripp Lite (this is the battery backup I use on the side of my desk!).  Of course if you are running servers and mission critical stuff, then it is so worth spending the hundreds of dollars required to buy the large format battery backups for those situations.

On-Site Backup

Without question you should have a great external hard drive (I recommend at least a 1 TB drive now days) so that you can run a backup program or Time Machine on your Mac to keep everything safe and backed-up!

Off-Site Backup

A very inexpensive alternative (or in addition to) option is to have your data synced with a service online.  I have used Carbonite for a while and really think there is system is slick and it runs in the background so well, I forget that I have it most of the time.  The best part of using an online service like Carbonite is that you set it up and never worry again.  I bought the 3 year option from Carbonite and it is unlimited so I have like 600+GB of data on their servers and I don’t have to buy an additional hard drive, they maintain them!  Add that to fact that I can log on to Carbonite from any computer online and I can access all my files that are backed up there!!!

Time Block for Cleanup

This one is just something you have got to plan for and set in your calendar RIGHT NOW or you will never do it.  Right now, open Outlook or iCal or your BlackBerry and put in a 3 hour time block and call it Technology Cleanup. Set it to reoccur every 30 days and then during your time block you go through your computer and do the following:

  • Delete old or temp documents that you wont need again
  • Delete blurry photos that you don’t like
  • Delete video clips that you won’t put into an edited video
  • Delete audio files and podcast files that you have listened to and no longer need.
  • Empty your trash can
  • Defrag your hard drive (if you are unlucky and use a PC ;-)

Share this blog post with your friends and small business owners!  All of the links and the information we cover in the HD version of the show this week is RIGHT HERE!  If you are interested in getting the HD version of this and every past episode of TechTuesday LIVE! TechTuesday #30 – Content For Your Blog

by C. Spencer Reynolds on July 20, 2010

The most important thing PERIOD for your blog is your CONTENT!!!  If you have no content there is no reason to build your blog.

Signs on the trail is the best method for content!  Not too many, and PACKED with SUPER RELEVANT information.  Short videos, small paragraphs and engaging stories!!!

One way to auto-post your content from your main blog to your other blogs as we talk about in the HD version below, is by using the WP-o-Matic plugin!  It fetches RSS feed information and automatically puts it in your other blogs.  (Be careful about getting grand ideas to use other people’s content and put it on your site, as this plugin could certainly do, focus instead on coming up with your own WELL THOUGHT OUT content and distribute it.)

I would rather see you post 1 GREAT blog post, in a week, that I will read; opposed to 10 posts that are nothing but fluff…

Google Maps for Real Estate Professionals

by C. Spencer Reynolds on May 5, 2010

Do you want to put detailed maps for your listings online?  One way would be the hard way, so we wont go there, the easy way is to do it using Google Maps for Real Estate Professionals.

If you are not familiar with Google’s system for maps and real estate and you are in the Real Estate Industry the time is NOW to learn and use this for every property owner you serve.  First and foremost make certain that your real estate company is listed in the Google Local directory by making (or claiming) your listing by visiting Google Local Business Center and adding your logos, photos and even VIDEOS about you and your company!  (This is key because your company will now show up on mobile devices that use Google Maps like the iPhone and Android phones.)

Next, you are going to get your individual listing information up to Google in the form of a FEED.  You can put that information in a “tab-delimited” format of in spreadsheet saved as .XLS and include as much information as you want to include.  This information is going to be uploaded to Google Base and they have detailed instructions on what attributes you can use and then how to submit that feed.  View all of that information by visiting Google Base Help – Housing – US.

Once your listing feed is submitted to Google, you can check your listings by visiting http://maps.google.com/realestate

Once your listing is up on Google Real Estate you can easily add maps to your specific listing by going to Google Real Estate and locating your listing.  Make the size of the window (as far as how zoomed in you want to be) and click on the “Send” option on the top right of the map window.  It will give you an address that is ridiculously LONG, like this.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&q=&mrt=realestate&sll=40.922949,-111.869402&sspn=0.011625,0.022209&attrid=2c9c97583d09b00d_&ie=UTF8&split=1&rq=
1&ev=zi&radius=0.58&hq=&hnear=&ll=40.922949,-111.869402&spn=0.011625,0.022209&t=h&z=16&iwloc=A&cid=13334209371405167213

..copy it and use a URL shortner service like bit.ly that will track your click throughs and get something that looks like this… http://bit.ly/c1OjDW

Then you put that link in your video descriptions on YouTube and Facebook… now you will know how many people were interested enough to click on a map of your listing and that is a great feedback tool!!!

  • Cheap to Quality
